Michael is a commercial and corporate lawyer with specialist knowledge in the construction and infrastructure industries.
He provides advice for tier-one contractors, financiers, major civil contractors, developers, residential and commercial builders, subcontractors, and energy providers.
He also works closely with businesses in the transport, not-for-profit, agribusiness, and financial services sectors.
Michael founded Morrissey Law & Advisory with the vision of combining legal and commercial advice with practical solutions to ensure that businesses can obtain the right advice to build for their future.
With a Master in Construction Law from The University of Melbourne, Michael has particular expertise in the roll out of major infrastructure projects, particularly for rail, road and transport, green technology projects, urban revitalisation, and the residential construction sector. He works closely with his clients, other professional advisors to develop strategies around the management of their business, major transactions and projects, and around dispute resolution.
Michael has significant experience drafting and negotiating complex contracts, and providing strategic advice on project delivery and procurement. His dispute resolution experience includes arbitration, expert determination and major litigation. This includes litigating payment, delay and insurance issues across a variety of projects.
Michael also regularly lectures at The University of Newcastle around project delivery, construction law and security of payment legislation.
