Mary Ann is a commercial & construction lawyer with specialised knowledge & experience in employment law and security of payment litigation.

Mary Ann joined the Morrissey Law team in early 2018 following the completion of her Honours in Law and Diploma of Legal Practice in 2017 and admission to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in February 2018.

Her prior studies included a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in accounting in 2015 at the University of Newcastle, as well as studying abroad when awarded the New Colombo Plan Scholarship by the Australia Government to study in Vietnam in 2016

Prior to joining Morrissey Law + Advisory, Mary Ann was a legal research assistant to a local barrister and worked in and volunteer with various firms and community legal centres in the Hunter region.

With a particular interest in employment law in the commercial sector, along with significant experience in construction dispute litigation and security of payment processes, Mary Ann covers a wide range of matters for Morrissey Law clients.

Mary Ann has worked on many complex construction and commercial matters, demonstrating a sophisticated understanding of the sector and industries. Always fast to familiarise herself with her clients’ operations, situation, and needs, Mary Ann provides effective and timely advice with her clients’ beneficial commercial outcomes in mind.

A few of Mary Ann’s many highlights include:

  • Acting as a lead lawyer on behalf of a large owners’ corporation in Supreme Court proceedings.
  • Acting as a co-lead negotiator for an international Chinese developer in Sydney, during which her fluency in Cantonese was a huge asset for the Client and was invaluable in moving the matter to completion.
  • Independently acting for many residential builders in licensing, contracting, and insurance investigations in Fair Trading under the Home Building Act, achieved successful outcomes in which clients have retained their building licences, while increasing their compliance knowledge and performance and satisfying Fair Trading requirements.
  • Managing and participating in various adjudications and negotiating difficult and complex matters to achieve successful commercial outcomes for her clients.
  • Mary Ann prides herself on her advanced legal project management skills which attribute to her ability to effectively coordinate and manage time-sensitive matters such as security of payment adjudications.

Mary Ann often takes the lead in the Morrissey Offices, not only when it comes to matter management, but also leading the team in organising participation in various charities and community events, social outings, and the office banter.
